MEDIA RELEASE 14.08.2024: THE APPOINTMENT OF JAMIE MULHALL, OUR NEW VICE CHAIR FOR MEMBERSHIP
We are delighted to announce that Jamie Mulhall has been appointed as the Vice Chair for Membership of the LGBT+ Conservatives. This position has been vacant since July 2023.
Jamie works in the Aerospace Industry for Rolls-Royce PLC focusing on infrastructure projects, having worked on a variety of high profile multi million Pound redevelopment projects, as well as taking part and leading a variety of new technology and innovation projects such as the development of carbon capture and storage.
Jamie is an elected Conservative Party Councillor alongside his two Conservative colleagues for Oakwood Ward in the City of Derby having been elected in 2023. Jamie was also the Conservative Parties Parliamentary candidate for the Derby South Constituency in the 2024 General election. Jamie led an energetic campaign and is well respected in the Conservative Party, becoming involved in one of the leadership candidate's campaigns this summer.
In a statement sent to members today, Chairman of the LGBT+ Conservatives Luke Robert Black welcomed Jamie to his new post:
"Jamie represents everything that this organisation exists for. He joined as a member, got onto the Approved List of Parliamentary Candidates for the Conservative Party, got selected for a seat, was mentored, supported financially and stood in the General Election. This journey is why we exist as an organisation and goes to the very heart of what we do.
Visiting Jamie, alongside Maggie Throup, Amanda Solloway and Luke Gardiner, it was clear to see that Jamie had worked to drive engaging, well-attended and enjoyable campaigns for Derbyshire members. Many members kept going back to support Derbyshire Conservatives because Jamie made the experience so enjoyable and made those who attended feel valued and included.
Jamie is hard working, a dedicated campaigner and natural at winning other's over - he will be a brilliant face of the organisation to new members and will help us to build on our ever-increasing membership. We hit an all-time high last year and are already on track to beat this again - Jamie will help us to go even further and I look forward to seeing him join the team.
Earlier in the year, in line with our constitution, we postponed our AGM due to the General Election, and we will announce a date to hold this after Conference and the Leadership Election have concluded. There is plenty to organise between now and then, especially for Conference, so I want to make sure this transition into Opposition is as smooth as possible.
I'd like you all to join me in congratulating Jamie Mulhall on his new role as the Vice Chair for Membership of the LGBT+ Conservatives".
In a statement sent to members, the Deputy Chairman of the LGBT+ Conservatives Freddie Downing also welcomed Jamie by saying: "As a Parliamentary candidate, Jamie set the standard for campaigning. The strong support he gave to other candidates was as noticeable as it was appreciated.
I know he’ll bring the same immense energy to the membership role, helping to drive the LGBT+ Cons forward, from the bottom up. Welcome to the team Jamie!".
Responding to the appointment, new Vice Chair for Membership Jamie Mulhall responded by saying: "
It is an absolute honour and privilege to have been asked by Luke to join the LGBT+ Cons as Vice Chair of membership. As a parliamentary candidate in the general election, I was grateful beyond words for all the support I received from the LGBT+ Cons throughout my campaign. So, I’m immensely proud that I'll be able to give something back to an organisation led by Luke Black that has gone above and beyond to support me.
An organisation is only as strong as its membership and activists, so I’m thoroughly looking forward to expanding our Membership and support base across the country. We have such amazing talent and people and I’m very much looking forward to reaching out to as many of you as possible!
This is a brilliant organisation. I’m looking forward to getting stuck in and the hard work starts now. I cannot wait to start work with Luke, the exec council and of course our fantastic members and supporters. The road to Victory in 2029 will be a long and hard one. But it is a fight we are all up for!
