MEDIA RELEASE 01/10/2023 THE RT. HON. STUART ANDREW MP WINS THE LGBT+ CONSERVATIVES ‘PATRON OF THE YEAR
We are delighted to announce that the Rt. Hon Stuart Andrew MP has won the LGBT+ Conservatives ‘Patron of the Year 2023’.
During the LGBT+ Conservatives Pride reception at Conservative Party Conference 2023, held in Manchester, the Conservative Member of Parliament for Pudsey won the highly esteemed title which he will hold for the duration of the year.
The ‘Patron of the Year’ award has become an annual Party Conference tradition with members of the LGBT+ Conservatives voting for the patron that they believe has been an outstanding representative who both embodies and helps elevate the organisation’s aims and ambitions. The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Equalities secured the highest number of votes, showcasing our members' profound appreciation for his ongoing commitment to the LGBT+ Conservatives.
Featuring on Attitude Magazine’s 101 most influential LGBT+ trailblazers, The Rt. Hon. Stuart Andrew MP has continually supported our organisation and the community within his various ministerial roles ranging from Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Sport, Tourism and Civil society to Minister of State for Housing. However, it is within his current position as Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Equalities – an office he has held since September 2022 – that he has been able to make the most meaningful and long-lasting impact for the LGBT+ community.
In a statement to be sent to members later today, Chairman Luke Robert Black congratulated the Rt. Hon. Stuart Andrew on his award: "Stuart has been a patron of this organisation for many years. In that time, he has rightly secured himself as one of the most influential, respected and admired LGBT+ Conservative MPs in Parliament. Stuart is often accredited for Rainbow Laces, the LGBT+ bands and being a visual LGBT+ voice - but he is more than that. He is someone who has a record of delivery for LGBT+ people, delivering for them in a meaningful way that actually impacts their lives - and doesn't patronise, generalise or treat LGBT+ people any differently".
We congratulate the Rt. Hon. Stuart Andrew MP on his outstanding achievement and are confident that he will continue to be a supportive friend, and patron, to the LGBT+ Conservatives.
In a statement to be sent to members later today, Student and Youth Liaison of the LGBT+ Conservatives Sam M Worthington congratulated the Rt. Hon. Stuart Andrew MP on his award: “Having been a dedicated patron of the LGBT+ Conservatives for a number of years, Stuart deserves great praise for his wonderful, and much deserved, award. Stuart has fearlessly confronted opposition, globally and nationally, while serving as a dignified, rational and compassionate representative of our community. His devotion to our organisation is rooted in the worthy mission of encouraging more LGBT+ Conservatives into politics where the necessary nuance that they provide enhances healthy debate. Stuart continues to be a paragon of LGBT pride and I cannot think of anyone who deserves this accolade more”.
