PRESS RELEASE: 02.09.2024 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
We are delighted to announce that the LGBT+ Conservatives are partnering with ConservativeHome at the 2024 Conservative Party Conference. This is the first time we have partnered with an organisation like this.
The partnership will include two events at the 2024 Conservative Party Conference, including a panel event which will be recorded and livestreamed for the first time, amplifying our organisation in a substantial way.
Alongside these events, the LGBT+ Conservatives will also host its other yearly events, including the Closing Party, the Annual Curry and the Terrence Higgins Trust Reception set up by former Chairman Elena Bunbury – one of the organisation’s most popular events now entering its third year.
In a statement sent to members today, the Chairman of the LGBT+ Conservatives Luke Robert Black welcomed this new partnership:
“Set up by Tim Montgomerie in 2005, ConservativeHome, or “ConHome”, as it is affectionately known, has gone from strength to strength and is seen as one of the most authoritative insights into the Conservative Party’s grassroots, voluntary party, MPs and, increasingly, also its younger members.
It is also one of the few publications in which you can read an opinion piece from a shadow cabinet minister and a local association chairman on the same page at the same time. This is really part of what makes the site so special – and is why getting published on ConHome is such a rite of passage for budding Tory MPs.
We are therefore delighted to be partnering with ConHome at this year’s conference, working together on a series of events on our aligned goals – and working together to play an active role in shaping the future of the United Kingdom’s most successful electoral party: the Conservative and Unionist Party.
This also marks a new chapter for the LGBT+ Conservatives as an organisation, which is now nearly fifty years old. The organisation has come a long way from meeting in secret at conference in the 1970s and 1980s, to now hosting events in partnership with a leading centre-right media outlet at Conservative Party conference. We are well and truly part of the Party family.
Responding to the announcement, Chief Executive of ConservativeHome, Angus Parsad-Wyatt, said: “ConservativeHome’s packed fringe programme and LGBT+ Conservatives events have both become firm fixtures in most Conference-goers diaries, so it is exciting that we are able to work together this year to reach audiences across the Conservative Party’s membership and beyond.”
Responding to the announcement, the Deputy Chairman of the LGBT+ Conservatives Freddie Downing said: “Our events have long been staples of Tory conference, from the curry night to the closing party.
I’m delighted this year the LGBT+ Conservatives will be more visible than ever as we partner-up with ConHome.
This partnership marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for the LGBT+ Cons as we take the lead on important policy discussions and, working with others, help to shape the future of our party”.
