MEDIA RELEASE 06.06.2023: THE CO-OPTION OF ALBIE AMANKONA, OUR NEW VICE-CHAIR FOR OUTREACH
We are delighted to announce that Albie Amankona has been co-opted as the Vice-Chair for Outreach of the LGBT+ Conservatives.
Broadcaster and Financial Analyst, Albie Amankona is a member of the Brentford and Isleworth Conservatives in West London. Presenter for GB News and commentator for the BBC, LBC, Times Radio, Sky and Talk TV, Albie features regularly on TV and Radio talking about a variety of topics. In 2020, Albie co-founded Conservatives Against Racism for Equality (CARfE) and Albie is passionate about broadening the appeal of the Conservative Party to young voters, minority groups and urban communities.
In a statement sent to members earlier today, Chairman of the LGBT+ Conservatives Luke Robert Black welcomed Albie to his new post:
"Ahead of the next General Election, the role of the Vice-Chair for outreach is crucial. This role remained vacant after the election and both Liam and I were keen to fill this as soon as possible.
The role requires someone with fresh ideas, expertise in communication and experience of working with the media, party, and other right-leaning organisations. I can think of no one more suited to this role than Albie Amankona.
Albie works in financial services but, politically, he is a regular commentator on GB News, ITV, Good Morning Britain, the Times, TalkTV, LBC, the BBC, Sky News and several other major UK media outlets. Albie also has a weekly show on GB News, which he works alongside Emily Carver, Darren Grimes, and a few other well-known centre-right media figures.
Albie is a consistently strong media communicator for the Conservative Party - especially on LGBT issues. Albie will defend the party's record on LGBT issues where it deserves defence and - importantly – will be an unapologetic Conservative voice on LGBT issues. Both key goals fro this organisation as it goes into the next General Election.
Albie can also articulate himself extremely well against those who do not support our community and does so – consistently - without victimising our community or indulging in the worst excesses of identity politics.
Within the Conservative party network, Albie set up Conservatives Against Racism for Equality (CARFE) a few years ago and is a lead figure within the 2022 Group. He is also a member of Conservative Way Forward, the Tory Reform Group and a regular contributor at ConservativeHome. He is therefore equally well-placed to help the LGBT+ Conservatives work with the party itself and various other affiliated groups. He has been a member of the LGBT+ Conservatives for the last three years.
I'd like you all to join me in welcoming Albie Amankona to the LGBT+ Conservatives as the next Vice-Chair for Outreach".
Responding to the appointment on Twitter, new Vice-Chair for Outreach Albie Amankona stated: "[I am] thrilled to be joining [the LGBT+ Conservatives] as Vice-Chair for Outreach, we Conservatives have come a long way on LGBT+ issues. Today, in an era where feelings matter more than facts. It is vital we adopt an independent, evidence and output-based approach to LGBT+ issues".
